Vice Chancellor Dr. Danita M. Brown Young shares how the Illinois community continues to grow, thrive, and support one another. This past fall, Illinois welcomed more than 9,000 first-year students, contributing to a student body of more than 60,000 across undergraduate, graduate, and online programs. Nearly one in five of these new students are first-generation, bringing determination and perspectives that enrich our campus.

Student Affairs remains focused on student wellness, leadership development, and community building. This commitment can be seen in the university’s adoption of the Okanagan Charter in 2025, which strengthens Illinois’ promise to embed health and well-being into all aspects of campus life. It also includes expanded mental health and wellness resources, leadership development opportunities that empower students to lead with confidence, and programs that foster genuine relationships and a strong sense of belonging.

This work is strengthened by alumni and friends whose mentorship, involvement, and support help students thrive. Their partnership makes it possible for Illinois to continue building a community where every student feels they belong.

We invite you to watch Vice Chancellor Brown Young’s message to hear more about the impact we create together.
