URBANA, Ill.— McKinley Health Center is the official campus health center at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. We are proud to announce our 100th Anniversary of delivering healthcare services, touching lives and making a difference. This milestone marks a century of being leaders in college health and a driving force of innovation, keeping Illinois students well to excel.
In 1924, Dean Thomas Arkle Clark recognized the growing healthcare needs for campus and reached out to Senator William B. McKinley for aid who made a generous donation to the university for the construction of McKinley Hospital. The hospital served students and faculty and was the headquarters for University Health Services. In 1970, the building was renamed McKinley Health Center where today we are dedicated to promoting the health and wellbeing of students while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students feel comfortable seeking care.
We are honored to be an integral part of the university providing advisory expertise to campus administration. Our journey has been shaped by the dedicated staff, the trust of our patients and the support through collaborations and partnerships on- and off-campus. We remain dedicated to our mission of delivering high-quality healthcare and health education to students.
“McKinley Health Center’s unwavering dedication to delivering exceptional healthcare to Illinois students has profoundly impacted countless lives. By championing holistic wellbeing and providing compassionate, comprehensive care, they have set a shining example of excellence. Here’s to celebrating this incredible achievement and difference they will continue to make in the lives of our students,” remarked Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr. Danita M. Brown Young.
Our values of safety, quality and service guide us in enhancing and expanding our services to meet the evolving needs of our diverse campus community. As McKinley Health Center advances its mission, we will ensure its services remain relevant and effective for the future needs of our campus. Join us as we celebrate our 100th Anniversary and look forward to the next 100 years of excellence.
To commemorate this historic occasion, we will host a series of outreach events throughout the year and have a few special events that will celebrate our accomplishments, honor the history of health services and highlight change as we look to the future. Mark your calendar to join us at the Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 13, at 5:30 p.m., at the Intersection of Kirby Avenue and Fourth Street, Champaign, IL where we will unveil our nostalgic float. We also encourage you to visit go.illinois.edu/mhc-100th to learn more about the history of McKinley Health Center.
