For the third year in a row, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is engaged in a friendly competition that saves lives in the process. The “We Give Blood” drive, a nationwide effort with Abbott and the Big Ten, aims to combat critical blood shortages and encourage first-time donors to participate and give back to their community.
From August 27 to December 5, 2026, the Fighting Illini will compete against all 17 other Big Ten schools to drive the most blood donations from students, alumni, and fans. Community members and supporters are also encouraged to step up and support Illinois. The winning school will receive $1 million from Abbott to support student or community health.
Last year, Illinois secured a top 5 spot, and the Fighting Illini led the charge for best overall improvement in participation. We’re aiming for a Top 3 finish this year, and we hope you'll join us!
