Meet the Turner Fellows

Each year, three seniors, who have demonstrated exemplary leadership abilities, join the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs as Fred H. Turner Fellows.

Congratulations to this year's Turner Fellows!

Lauren De Vries

Lauren is an Applied Health Sciences major and would like to pursue speech-language pathologies, with a specific interest in children, as her future career.  Currently, she serves as the vice president of membership for Student Alumni Ambassadors, responsible for recruiting new members and professional development. She hopes to get her fellow students to be more involved and more connected to the university. Previously, she worked at the University Child Development Lab as a student aide.

Moises Contreras

Moises holds dual majors in Italian and psychology and a minor in Latina/o studies. Throughout his college career, he has held many leadership roles, including serving as the president for United Greek Council, a member of the Student Cultural and Programming Fee Board, and serving on the La Casa Cultural Latina Advisory Board. He speaks Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, and some French. Currently, he works as an information and programs manager at SDRP.

Malcolm Smith

Majoring in marketing, Malcolm serves as co-director of membership for Student Alumni Ambassadors. In his freshman year, he joined the Marching Illini and represented the university at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.  He is now working for Admissions as a training and development intern to develop training for tour guides, and also conducts campus tours himself.
