Want to get involved with the university and gain critical real life working experience? One of the best ways to do this is to gain a University of Illinois Student Affairs internship for next year. There are six different types of internships from different Student Affairs departments that tailor to individual's different interests. Regardless of what your major is and your future aspirations, a student affairs internship helps you develop your professionalism, leadership, organizational, and project management skills.

Assembly Hall

Marketing Internship: The Assembly Hall Marketing internships are paid positions that provide pre-professional experience for dedicated, creative, and energetic juniors or seniors with a career interest in Entertainment Marketing. The Assistant Director for Marketing, as well as the other office staff, serve as mentors as the interns act as Marketing Assistants promoting concerts and events held at Assembly Hall. As Marketing Assistants, the interns assist in event marketing by developing promotions, writing press releases, placing advertising, creating ad copy, facilitating market research, managing media databases, coordinating street team efforts as well as other duties as assigned. Student interns receive exposure in nearly every aspect of event marketing while receiving professional networking opportunities to prepare them for a marketing career in the live entertainment business. Candidates should have excellent organizational and communication skills and be able to demonstrate creative ability. Marketing, Advertising or Communications majors preferred. One academic year commitment with a minimum of 12-15 hours per week required. (3 positions)

Bobbi Hein Professional Internship:This internship position provides an undergraduate the opportunity to undertake professional, hands-on, challenging assignments while working with the Director of Campus Recreation. Through ownership of a diverse range of projects, the Professional Intern actively engages in a professional workplace, building both technical and interpersonal skills. Experiences and projects include the following: strategic planning; project management; event planning and organization; service on University-wide committees; and development and deliverance of presentations to professional staff. By engaging fellow students, Student Affairs, University professional staff and working professionals in the greater Champaign-Urbana community, the Professional Intern contributes to various Campus Recreation and Student Affairs’ projects and initiatives.
Marketing Internship: The Marketing Intern will have the opportunity to develop marketing competencies under the lead of the Assistant Director of Marketing and other professionals of the marketing team. In this position, an undergraduate will gain experience promoting events using diverse mediums and strategies, such as: managing the online Facebook page, updating facility digital signage and distributing and changing out print forms of promotional advertisements. Moreover, the intern will be involved with the solicitation and fulfillment of sponsorships, will oversee the advertising placement plan and will assist with the development of the marketing plan. Through the broad range of assignments, Campus Recreation aims to prepare the student to have a successful career in marketing, by means of providing working knowledge about behinds-the-scenes work and encouraging the student to take initiative and incorporate flexibility in a professional workplace.
Communications Internship provides an undergraduate the opportunity to gain real world expertise in the communications function under the leadership of the Assistant Director of Marketing. In this position, the intern completes such tasks as writing press releases, updating the website, producing various newsletters, producing podcast and videocasts and writing various articles for external media vehicles. Further, the intern will develop key competencies in using new forms of technology, meeting clients’ needs and in event planning and management. This extensive and diverse workload will enhance the student’s experiences in order to equip him/her for a successful career in communications. In this professional setting, the student will learn to take initiative and will develop strong leadership skills.

Graf Internships: As an intern, you have the opportunity to use your experiences to encourage other students to develop skills and understand the fundamental values of Illinois Leadership.
You can be involved in organizing and creating the various opportunities that the Center offers including: i-programs, marketing, outreach, Leadership Certificate, leadership skills assessment , workshops, consulting, leadership courses (4 positions).
Office of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Fred H. Turner Fellows serve in pre-professional paid internships in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. These internship positions provide undergraduates the opportunity to undertake professional assignments under the guidance of the Vice Chancellor and staff during their senior year. Preivious Turner Fellows have worked on a wide range of issues from strategic planning, student fees, community-based learning and volunteer service to leadership development, campus safety and wellness. Fellows coordinate focus sessions to discuss pertinent student issues and created presentations for the Chancellor's Cabinet, Student Affairs staff and students.These interns provide insights on student concerns and issues and learn about the operations of Student Affairs at Illinois (3 positions).

Barbara Seaquist Williams Internship: This paid internship position provides the opportunity for students to work with the Champaign-Urbana community and its ever-changing needs. Because of the unique partnerships the Office of Volunteer Programs has with the community, interns will experience first hand the value of those partnerships. Interns will take advantage of mentoring relationships with the Director of the Office of Volunteer Programs as well as community leaders that work closely with the office. Interns will be expected to complete a signature project related to service that may require research, analysis, and the planning and preparation of a final presentation (1 position).

Advancement Internship: The Student Affairs Advancement internship is a paid position that offers pre-professional experience for a talented and energetic junior or senior with a career interest in student affairs, business administration, professional writing, and/or communications. The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Advancement, as well as the other office staff, will serve as mentors as the intern completes projects related to the priorities of the Office of Student Affairs Advancement. Candidates should have excellent organizational skills, demonstrate creative and professional writing skills, and have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
Possible duties may include: research, develop, and produce content for donor promotions and campaigns; assist in the development of the Parents Fund; plan and coordinate general Student Affairs Advancement events. (1 position)
