Meet Anna Gonzalez
Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Director of the Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR)
Anna came to Illinois from UC-Irvine in 2008, where she was Associate Dean of Students and Director of the first multicultural center in the University of California system. She also initiated and maintained Irvine's Summer Multicultural Leadership Institute (SMLI). During her term on the UCI Expansion Advisory Board, she played an administrative role in overseeing the $60 million Phase IV expansion of the UCI Cross-Cultural Center and Student Center.
Anna received her Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in higher
education at Claremont Graduate University. She also received her M.A. in Higher Ed from Claremont, and her undergraduate degree in International Business from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
As Associate Vice Chancellor, Anna's responsibilities for Student Affairs include acting as principal staff liaison to students and staff on issues of inclusion and diversity, recruitment and retention of diverse staff and students. She engages in strategic initiatives with regard to the coordination and implementation of campus multicultural programs and oversees communications for the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Anna sailed twice on the Semester at Sea Program, most recently as the Director of Student Life for the Fall 2007 voyage. Anna is currently the national secretary/treasurer for the Association for Asian American Studies. She is also involved NASPA and have served in numerous national and regional leadership roles. She is the chair for the 2011 NASPA Region IVE Conference.
