The Illinois Club Announces Scholarship Awards for Academic Year 2010-2011

The Illinois Club was founded in 1906.  Members include faculty, staff, and their spouses from all academic, research, administrative, and extension areas of the University, as well as community members.  Since 1917, The Illinois Club has provided financial support to worthy undergraduate students. 

For the 2010-2011 academic year, The Illinois Club will award the following scholarships:

• five $2,000 Make-A-Difference Awards
• one $4,500 Judith Life Ikenberry Fine Arts Award
• seven $2,000 Isabelle Purnell Education Awards

Award Designations

Make-A-Difference Award

Men or women, who are second semester sophomores or any juniors as of September 2009 who will be enrolled in classes during 2010-2011 and have a minimum GPA of 2.75, are eligible for this award.

The Judith Life Ikenberry Fine Arts Award

Men or women, who are second semester sophomores or any juniors as of September 2009 who will be enrolled in classes during 2010-2011 and have a minimum GPA of 2.75, are eligible.  This scholarship will be awarded to a student in the College of Fine and Applied Arts or to a creative writing major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The Isabelle Purnell Education Award

Men or women, who are second semester sophomores or any juniors as of September 2009 who will be enrolled in classes during 2010-2011 and have a minimum GPA of 2.75, are eligible.  These scholarships will be awarded to students majoring or minoring in Education.

How To Apply

Applications are available at the Women’s Resources Center, 703 South Wright Street, 2nd Floor, Champaign or online (see link below)and must be submitted by Tuesday, December 1, 2009.  Although these awards are under the Women’s Resources Center umbrella, the awards are not based on gender.

Applicants must attach a 500 words or less statement to their application explaining how they plan to use their education and experiences to "make-a-difference" in the lives of others.  Applications should be turned into Pat Morey in the Women’s Resources Center.  Semi-finalists will be interviewed in January and February 2010.  A brunch for honoring winners will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010.  Further details are available online at www.TheIllinoisClub.org/scholarship.php and on the application.
