Illinois Sights and Sounds

Student Affairs is proud to work with the Student Alumni Association, University of Illinois Alumni Association, and Division of Intercollegiate Athletics to offer Illinois Sights and Sounds, held at Memorial Stadium after New Student Convocation in late August.

This year's Sights and Sounds event, on Aug. 23, was one for the record books!

More than 7,300 freshmen enrolled at Illinois this fall - our second-biggest freshman class ever - and many of them took part in the "Block I" class photo opportunity at the end of Convocation (edited photo above).

As part of this year's Illinois Sights and Sounds celebration, Dining Services staff from University Housing helped our Campus set a new Guinness World Record for the largest-ever batch of salsa, weighing in at 6,840 pounds. The previous record, set in Spain, was 5,868 pounds. Most of the produce used in the salsa was locally grown, much of it at the Sustainable Student Farm on the south edge of Campus.
