The Illini Union Board is appointed on a different cycle and therefore not open for nominations to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at this time.

The Illini Union Board has received two charges from the Board of Trustees:
1. Provide advice to the Director of the Illini Union on major policy issues;
2. Provide campus-wide programming.

Most student members concentrate on programming. Non-student members have the option of participating in programming decisions or serving on the Policy Committee (see time commitment section below).

Time Commitment

There are three main committees of IUB:
Program Council: Primarily, if not entirely comprised of students, which reviews and discusses programming issues and the budget.
Policy Committee: Consists of the student officers, one additional student, and most of the non-student Board members. The Policy Committee makes recommendations on IUB and Illini Union policies. Meetings usually last 1 - 1 1/2 hours and are held every third Wednesday at 5:10 p.m.
Executive Committee: Consists of the student officers and one non-student Board member. The Executive Committee also meets once every three weeks on Wednesday at 5:10 p.m. Meetings usually last 1 - 1 1/2 hours.

Meetings

The entire Board meets once every three weeks on Wednesday at 5:10pm. Meetings usually last 1 1/2 hours. Meetings only occur when classes are in session.

Meetings run on a three-week rotation: the Policy Committee meets the first Wednesday, the Executive Committee the next Wednesday, and the full Board the third Wednesday. Then the cycle begins again with the Policy Committee.

Most student Board members attend one Program Council meeting per week and the full Board meets once every three weeks (Wednesdays at 5:10pm). The four student officers also attend the Policy and Executive Committee meetings. Student Board members are expected to average between 5-10 hours per week working on IUB programs and projects.

Non-student Board members (faculty, staff, or alumni) attend meetings two out of every three Wednesdays at 5:10pm (either Policy or Executive Committee, plus the full Board meeting). The non-student Board members have the option of getting involved in programming instead of serving on the Executive or Policy Committees. This alternative requires them to attend one Program Council meeting per month and participate in the planning of one program per semester.

Other Time Commitments:
One overnight retreat is held in January; another retreat takes place in early September. Attendance at IUB events also is encouraged.

Requirements for student members only:
• Set strike after the Fall and Spring Musicals (2-3 hours each semester)
• Space checks in the Student Organization Complex (30 minutes each semester)
• Planning and organizing programs (averages 5 hours each week)
• Helping at Homecoming and various other events
