Student Election Commission

The Student Election Commission has the responsibility and authority for administering the following elections: Illinois Student Senate; Student Organization Resource Fee (SORF) Board; and Student Trustee.

The Student Elections Commission (SEC) is an independent body composed of graduate and professional students. Some of the duties of the SEC include establishing election rules, administering elections, certifying election results and conducting appeal hearings upon request. Interested students should submit an application to the current SEC for consideration as a member: applications are accepted at the beginning of each fall semester. The SEC appoints members to serve on the Commission. The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs appoints two staff members to serve as advisors.

Student membership* is limited to:
no less than nine (9) UIUC students; no more than thirteen (13) UIUC students, including two (2) Commission Co-Chairs
*Student members must have earned a bachelor degree and be current UIUC students pursuing a post-bachelors degree (enrolled in a graduate or professional degree program).

Time Commitment

The majority of the Committee’s work is in the spring semester. All members of the Committee must be available to assist with the elections.
