Meet Renée Romano

Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Dr. C. Renée Romano has served as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign since 2006.

Student Affairs consists of many of the departments that create learning experiences for students outside the classroom such as Housing, the Dean of Students Office, Counseling, and Campus Recreation.

Student Affairs’ 1,200 employees may work in a wide variety of settings, but they all share one goal:  To ensure that every student on our campus has opportunities for personal and professional growth, with special emphasis on leadership and career development, health and wellness, diversity programs and engagement with the larger community. Dr. Romano works closely with the Chancellor's Office as well as the Office of the Provost to provide the best possible “Illinois Experience” for our students.

Dr. Romano previously worked in Student Affairs at the University of Northern Iowa, The University of New Hampshire, and Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia.  Her career in higher education has been characterized by a commitment to diversity, collaboration, a focus on assessment and seeking opportunities to work with academic affairs to insure student success. Just prior to her arrival at Illinois, she was the Vice President for Educational and Student Services at Northern Iowa, where she also taught a variety of graduate courses as an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Counseling and Post-secondary Education.

A native of Central Illinois, Dr. Romano earned her bachelor’s degree in art and a master’s degree in higher education, both from Southern Illinois University.  She completed her doctorate in higher education at Iowa State University.
