Rape Awareness & Prevention Committee (co-appointed)

The Rape Awareness and Prevention Committee is appointed jointly by the Associate Provost/Director of Academic Human Resources and the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. 

The work of the Committee focuses on, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Encouraging the development, implementation, and assessment of awareness, prevention, and intervention programs that address sexual misconduct in the campus community.
  • Working with community leaders and service providers to prevent sexual misconduct and to ensure a coordinated response, both in terms of law enforcement and survivor services, in accordance with the Illinois Campus Security Enhancement Act and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
  • Collecting and disseminating information regarding levels and patterns of sexual misconduct in the campus community and alerting the campus administration to any possible trends or need for changes in educational programs, interventions, or services.
  • Promoting and providing appropriate training of units and staff responsible for addressing sexual misconduct.

The charge should be revisited every odd-numbered year, and/or when there are regulatory changes, to assess its objectives and current needs.

Roster

  • 5 student representatives, with 1 from each of the following: a University residence hall, a fraternity, a sorority, Illinois Student Senate, and a student organization focused on sexual misconduct issues.
  • 7 community members, with 1 from each of the following: Urbana Police, Champaign Police, State's Attorney's Office, Rape Advocacy Counseling & Education Services (rape crisis center), Courage Connection (domestic violence center), Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Department, and Presence Convenant Medical Center Emergency Department.
  • 1 faculty member from the Provost's Gender Equity Council.
  • 14 staff members from Counseling Center, Disability Resources & Educational Services, Diversity, Equity & Access, Faculty/Staff Assistance Program, Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, Intercollegiate Athletics, McKinley Health Center, Public Safety, ROTC, Staff Advisory Council, Student Assistance Center, Student Conflict Resolution, University Housing, and Women's Resources Center.
